A Japanese woodcut, representing a Kabuki actor, by Utagawa Kunisada (a.k.a. Toyokuni III), 1852.
- From Tokaido gojusan tsugi no uchi - Narumi: (Actor Onoe Kikujirô II as) Hitomaru - 1852 "Tokaido Gojusantsugi no Uchi" (Fifty-three Stations of Tokaido). Hitomaru at Narumi station. This large Tokaido series was commonly called, "Yakusha Tokaido" (Kabuki Actor's Tokaido). It was actually meant to be the bust portrait of Kabuki actors whose names were not mentioned because of the censorship banning the luxury or pleasure items. The portrait was depicted with a landscape background. The series was very popular and more than 150 designs for many duplicate stations and in-between stations were produced.
